SEMrush is an all-in-one SEO and SEM management tool intended for small to medium-sized organizations. Just like similar tools, SEMrush allows users to conduct keyword research, track the performance of websites (including competitors), and measures SEO key indicators. SEMrush, however, has its problems and it reflects, despite the performance and reliability that users enjoy.
What does the tool offer?
The primary capabilities surrounding SEMrush include keyword research, domain analysis, and real-time reporting and analytics dashboards. The most notable capability is SEMrush’s competitor comparison tools; with its domain analysis tool, you can track the web performance of different websites without having to develop a campaign. You can see a competitor’s’ URLs, traffic, SERP ranking (etc.) and compare it to your statistics. SEMrush is also integrated with several external tools, like Google Sheets, KPI dashboard Databox, and tracking tool TapClicks.
Collaboration limited, estimations off
One of the critical setbacks to SEMrush is its lacking support for team collaboration. Though primarily a pricing issue, each subscription tier only offers one user license; to get more users, you’d have to pay an additional fee on a recurring basis to support more than one user license.
Another critical issue with SEMrush is the insufficient accuracy of its estimation tools. Users report that the estimation tool doesn’t accurately track total link clicks, visits, search queries, or related metrics properly.
The SEMrush Pro plan is $99.95 per month for essential features and one user license, or you can purchase an annual plan for $999.40. On the Guru plan, it costs $199.95 per month or $1999.40 annually. The Business plan $399.95 per month or $3999.40 yearly. Custom plans and enterprise options are also available with consultation from the company.
However, the real pricing setback is user licenses. The Pro and Guru plans offer user licenses for up to two to three users respectively. However, the costs for a new user could be considered astronomically high for a monthly subscription. For each new user on the Pro plan, it costs $70; $140 per new user for the Guru plan; and $140 per new user for the Business plan (for up to 10 users).
SEMrush: Our Verdict
SEMrush is an excellent tool for a few key functions. It can be best utilized by small to medium-sized organizations including your campaign or advocacy group. You can compare your performance to your competitors and understand and research a body of high-performing keywords, too.
Nevertheless, you need to consider the facts about the tool–especially with its pricing structure–before committing a hefty amount of funds for your SEO and SEM strategies. SEMrush is an excellent tool for those who enjoy the focus on rich keyword research; however, some folks prefer platforms that offer similar services for lower price points.
